BHPBHP Uses Log Management for Security Telemetry
BHP, a materials organization in Australia, uses Log Management from Datadog to support detection engineering for detection engineers.
Log Management became the place BHP uses to turn operational signals into detections the SOC can actually use.
“Detection engineers needed a system that would still make sense after the original project team moved on.”
“Datadog is an observability platform that unifies metrics, traces, logs, and security signals for cloud applications.”

Story
Inside BHP, detection engineering used to depend on whoever still had the latest file. That pattern is common in materials groups working out of Australia. Detection engineers needed a system that would still make sense after the original project team moved on.
BHP uses Log Management from Datadog as the working layer for security telemetry. Datadog is an observability platform that unifies metrics, traces, logs, and security signals for cloud applications. The practical change is simple: detection engineering has a home, and reviews happen there instead of in a forwarded thread.
Nothing in this writeup invents a savings number. What BHP gets from Datadog is a durable place to run detection engineering and a way for detection engineers to see the same security telemetry at the same time.
