Story
CH Robinson grew infrastructure as code faster than the local tools around it. From the United States, industrials teams still had to serve customers and internal partners who expected a straight answer. Platform engineers were the ones stitching the picture together by hand.
Rolling out Boundary put environment provisioning on HashiCorp. HashiCorp (an IBM company) provides infrastructure automation software, including Terraform and Vault, for cloud provisioning and secrets. CH Robinson keeps the product in the path where work already happens, so platform engineers do not context-switch into a graveyard system used only for audits.
The visible result is steadier environment provisioning. Infrastructure as code is easier to inspect, and adjacent groups can join platform engineers without a guided tour of someone's desktop.
