Snyk is a London-based cybersecurity company that provides developers with application security tools to identify vulnerabilities and embed mitigation measures within code. Since 2016, the company has built a vast repository of vulnerability data across publicly licensed codebases worldwide, requiring its security analysts to continuously update intelligence. As Snyk scaled to serve larger enterprises with growing reporting demands, its data team recognized that its legacy analytics platform could not support the organization's need for rapid, accessible insights across multiple teams and departments. The company migrated to Snowflake's AI Data Cloud in 2021 and subsequently implemented Cortex AI to democratize access to critical information through natural language interfaces.

To address time-consuming searches for information, Snyk built an AI chatbot integrated into Slack using Snowflake Cortex AI and Cortex Search. The solution processes unstructured data sources—including Slack threads, internal documentation, blogs, and Snyk Learn educational content—and makes them queryable without requiring coding skills. The chatbot leverages Cortex's vector store structure for efficient filtering and Cortex's inference layer to interpret natural language questions. Implementation was significantly faster than building the capability in-house; Oliver Armstrong, AI Systems Engineer at Snyk, noted that building this would have taken weeks. By centralizing all data within Snowflake's boundaries, the team maintained security and compliance while enabling broad access across customer support, sales, developers, and product management functions.

The AI chatbot now addresses approximately 2,500 questions per month and has generated an estimated 1,250 business hours of monthly savings by enabling employees to find answers in less than one minute, compared to previously spending hours searching across multiple data sources. Product managers particularly benefit, as the system now automates the analysis of customer tickets and issue prioritization that once consumed significant time. Additionally, Snyk uses chatbot usage patterns to continuously improve its internal documentation, creating a virtuous cycle where better resources produce more accurate answers. The company is expanding the solution to additional teams and plans to customize responses based on user roles, with further applications already deployed on the Snyk Assist educational platform serving enterprise customers.
