The State of Michigan's Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB) faced the challenge of delivering stable, secure, and easily accessible IT services to 20 state executive agencies, serving over 10 million citizens and approximately 55,000 employees. As the state increased its reliance on cloud services, the complexity of its hybrid, multi-cloud environment grew exponentially, making it difficult to monitor and manage critical services and ensure optimal citizen and customer experiences. The DTMB needed a solution that would provide comprehensive visibility, enable proactive problem resolution, and drive cost efficiency.

To address these challenges, the DTMB chose Dynatrace for its unified observability platform and AI-driven capabilities. By implementing Dynatrace, the DTMB gained real-time insights into its entire IT ecosystem, enabling them to identify and resolve issues quickly. The DTMB also leveraged Dynatrace's synthetic monitoring to proactively identify potential problems before they impacted users. This allowed the DTMB to work with cloud providers and software vendors to resolve issues before they resulted in outages, ensuring the reliability of critical services such as hunting and fishing licensing and services provided by the Secretary of State.

With Dynatrace, the State of Michigan achieved significant cost savings, improved staff morale, and enhanced the reliability of public services. Dynatrace enabled the DTMB to consolidate multiple outdated monitoring solutions, reducing the number of contractors and staff needed to support its monitoring capabilities. This resulted in $4.4 million in cost savings over five years. The automation provided by Dynatrace freed up support teams to focus on more strategic tasks, improving workforce satisfaction and reducing employee churn. Most importantly, Dynatrace enabled the State of Michigan to deliver more reliable and consistent services to its citizens.
