Norsk helsenett SF (NHN), tasked with providing robust and secure ICT infrastructure for Norway's healthcare sector, faced challenges with its aging HPE 3PAR storage system. Support costs were escalating, and the need for a modern, high-performance platform to support evolving healthcare services became critical. NHN sought a solution that could ensure continuous uptime, handle stringent regulatory demands, and provide the necessary foundation for future healthcare innovations.
To address these challenges, NHN implemented IBM FlashSystem 9500 across four data centers. IBM's local competence and expert support, particularly from IBM Expert Labs, were key factors in the decision. The migration process was streamlined, and NHN quickly realized the benefits of the new storage solution. The IBM FlashCore Module (FCM) provided always-on encryption for enhanced data security and compression capabilities for increased storage capacity. The Safeguarded Copy feature further ensured data protection.
The implementation of IBM FlashSystem 9500 resulted in significant improvements for NHN. Rack space utilization was reduced by 95%, and power consumption decreased by 79%, leading to substantial cost savings. Furthermore, the solution's sustainability features, including 97% recyclability, positioned NHN as a leader in environmental responsibility within the healthcare sector.
With the new IBM FlashSystem in place, NHN achieved a modern storage foundation that delivers enhanced performance, greater redundancy, and lower costs. This transformation not only supports current healthcare ICT needs but also enables future expansion and innovation, ensuring that Norway's healthcare system remains at the forefront of technological advancement.
Value Results:
95% reduction in rack space
79% reduction in energy consumption
Approximately NOK 500,000 (USD 45,000) per year in power cost savings
Approximately NOK 2 million (USD 180,000) per year in maintenance cost savings
Improved data security with always-on encryption
