Digital Office Company (DOC), a Finland-based information management solutions provider, empowers businesses to efficiently manage and extract insights from vast document repositories. Recognizing the limitations of superficial document classification systems, DOC sought to enhance its capabilities and address challenges related to data quality and regulatory compliance.
In collaboration with IBM Ecosystem Engineering Build Lab, IBM Client Engineering, and IBM Technology Expert Labs, DOC embarked on a 6-week pilot project. The goal was to develop a solution leveraging traditional machine learning and generative AI, specifically IBM® watsonx.ai™ and IBM Watson® Discovery. The pilot focused on the real estate industry, known for its diverse data types and stringent regulatory requirements.
The resulting data pipeline solution, powered by IBM Watson Discovery, combines custom machine learning models with Mistral AI’s Mixtral-8x7B LLM to classify documents using custom labels and metadata tags. The solution also extracts valuable insights, such as board decisions from meeting minutes. This combined approach leverages the strengths of both traditional machine learning and generative AI, overcoming the limitations of each.
The pilot demonstrated significant improvements in document classification speed and accuracy. What previously took minutes of manual effort now takes just seconds, with human evaluation only required for flagged outliers. DOC plans to expand the solution to other industries and customer segments, further enhancing its information management capabilities.
Value Results:
Accelerated Document Classification: Reduced document classification time from minutes to just 2.4 seconds per document.
Enhanced Insight Extraction: Enabled extraction of rich insights, such as board decisions, from meeting minutes.
Improved Data Quality: Addressed GDPR concerns and enhanced data quality for downstream tasks.
Cost Savings: Minimized manual document review, resulting in significant cost savings.
Competitive Advantage: Enhanced DOC's competitive edge by providing faster and more accurate information management solutions.
